Safety of Doctors:- Need of this Hour

Today doctors & health department workers have become front-line warriors against deadliest Corona. But, the worldwide number of deaths of doctors is increasing day by day. Corona has not spared Indian doctors too, we have one death due to Coronavirus. On these concerning grounds, there needs to be stability & enough personal protective kits for doctors, if we are to win this battle.

There have been 21 deaths till now in Italy, who were constantly treating COVID-19 patients. 12,298 doctors & health care workers tested positive for Coronavirus. This incident has happened in India too. One doctor died while treating a Corona positive Patient. There is more number of cases arising from Delhi, Indore & Pune. This means that the front-line warriors are not fully equipped to battle against Corona.

Here are the major two points why this has happened in the first place:-

1. Not Strictly Following Lockdown:- People are not taking this lockdown seriously, they tend to roam on streets of cities without any reason. This has indirectly led to doctors coming in contact with silent carriers of Coronavirus.
2. Lack of PPE kits:- As compared to Western & European countries, we seriously lack personal protective kits. Though the ‘World Health Organization’ has praised India for the measures taken against COVID-19, lack of PPE kits is a ground reality of almost every hospital in India.

The man in China, who raised some serious threats about Coronavirus, Dr. Li Wenliang also died by the same Coronavirus. He was constantly treating several COVID-19 patients in a hospital in China, eventually succumbed to death by the same disease. In India, there is already a shortage of doctors. We have one doctor per 1457 citizens according to Indian Government stats. Despite all this, doctors & health workers are giving their 100 percent at this level to tackle the Corona.

As compared to Britain, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Iran & China, India has a much better situation in terms of Corona deaths & patients. The only reason behind that improved situation is nothing but the nation-wide lockdown. On the other hand, the Medical Giants like Italy & America have become helpless against Coronavirus. The numbers are staggering, 500–700 deaths are being reported per day in countries like Italy & Spain.

The situation is even worse in America, total deaths are more than 2500 now & counting. While 1,50,000 people have been tested positive for Coronavirus. Britain is facing similar woes that they are suffering from PPE kits & ventilators. India too has a shortage of masks, but local manufacturing companies & some businessmen have come forward to tackle this situation.

Some relief is that the masks & PPE kits made by local manufacturing companies have been granted for decent quality by AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Science). There have been efforts from the local Automobile companies to carry out the production of ventilators at a moderate cost.

Continuous efforts from Government & local manufacturing companies have given solidity to doctors & health workers, but it will take time to reach the products like PPE kits & masks to reach to them. Till that time, it is a serious threat to our doctors & health workers if they get infected.
